About SCPT Family

3 canoe families from the Sunshine Coast participated in 2011 PULLING TOGETHER on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This annual event involves approximately 20 canoe families, or 300 participants, and community members en route. Pulling Together is a unique opportunity for the RCMP, First Nations People, Youth, and other government agencies to work together and build relations. Thank you for visiting our blog. We hope to update the blog regularly until we meet again in Pulling Together 2012. All my relations.

Waiting in Bamfield - July 5, 2011

From Nettles Island, the canoes were either transported to Bamfield by barge or towed by the Coast Guard.  Pullers were shuttled to Bamfield by zodiac.  Traveling by zodiac was a rough ride to say the least.  It was a memorable experience to zip across along the Pacific Ocean through huge waves at racing speeds.  I am glad that we did not have to paddle in those water conditions.  With much gratitude to those seamen who volunteered their time to make this happen for Pulling Together.  The canoes, on the other hand, transported by the barge were off loaded by hand onto land, deposited directly into the water, or lifted and dropped onto the water by crane.
