About SCPT Family

3 canoe families from the Sunshine Coast participated in 2011 PULLING TOGETHER on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This annual event involves approximately 20 canoe families, or 300 participants, and community members en route. Pulling Together is a unique opportunity for the RCMP, First Nations People, Youth, and other government agencies to work together and build relations. Thank you for visiting our blog. We hope to update the blog regularly until we meet again in Pulling Together 2012. All my relations.

Waiting for the Bus - July 7, 2011

Loved Pacheana Bay all that it had to offer.  Today was the day to close up camp and start heading off to Port Alberni.  As mentioned earlier, we did not set out to paddle today.  We were all driving to Port Alberni to set up for our final camp.  Some crews were ready to go soon after breakfast and the morning skippers meeting with ground crew.  Each group departed in heats... the camp was located on a logging road.  Conditions to drive on this dusty road was trying at best.  The Sunshine Coast crew opted to wait for a bus to commute to Port Alberni.  Our drivers left somewhat earlier than us, but the our crew waited until 3:30 pm for our bus to arrive.  We had much of our day to lounge around Pacheana Bay while the rest of the Pulling Together were arriving in batches in Port Alberni.  We saw a bear across the river.  That was certainly a highlight for us.  3:30 rolled around but it was not surprising that our bus arrived 2 hours late such that we were the last crew to arrive at our final destination at 7 pm.  Thank you RCMP and our van sweeps for taking care of us and making sure that we were OK.  We arrived to Port Alberni.  It was windy and cold.  No worries though... by the time we got off the bus, we were pleased that there was pizza still left over for us for dinner.  YUM.
