One of the coolest tings that happen during Pulling Together is that people "pull together." As everyone arrives to shore, MANY HANDS are needed to carry each canoe to shore. About 20 or so people will carry each canoe with one hand on the gunnel (the edge of the canoe). When many hands help, the job seems effortless. Thank you for all those who help. There is canoe that needs more help than others. It's the "Circle of Eagles" dugout canoe. The canoe is exceptionally heavy and there are no gunnels to take hold of. As a result, the canoe must be carried on people's shoulders. Luckily, this was only done once on July 4, 2011. The beaches here are sandy and the dugout was often pushed and dragged onto shore.
Traveling from Tofino to Ahousaht to Port Alberni from June 30th to July 8th.
About SCPT Family
- Sunshine Coast Pulling Together Canoe Journey 2011
- 3 canoe families from the Sunshine Coast participated in 2011 PULLING TOGETHER on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This annual event involves approximately 20 canoe families, or 300 participants, and community members en route. Pulling Together is a unique opportunity for the RCMP, First Nations People, Youth, and other government agencies to work together and build relations. Thank you for visiting our blog. We hope to update the blog regularly until we meet again in Pulling Together 2012. All my relations.
