About SCPT Family

3 canoe families from the Sunshine Coast participated in 2011 PULLING TOGETHER on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This annual event involves approximately 20 canoe families, or 300 participants, and community members en route. Pulling Together is a unique opportunity for the RCMP, First Nations People, Youth, and other government agencies to work together and build relations. Thank you for visiting our blog. We hope to update the blog regularly until we meet again in Pulling Together 2012. All my relations.

Being the Sweep - July 3, 2011

In Pulling Together, there is one canoe that is the Lead Canoe and two others are the Sweep.  The sweep stay at the back to ensure all canoes have safely arrived to the intended destination.  Today, the SD46 Canoe was one of the sweep canoes along with the Abbotsford Police Canoe.  What an honour it is to contribute to the Pulling Together Family in this way.  Being the sweep provided us with a beautiful perspective of the journey as a whole.  The best part was being able to observe the canoes during protocol.  Protocol are the formalities engaged when arriving and departing from shore.  One aspect that can be seen in pictures well is lining up in a row to form a circle in front of community we wish to arrive to.  Permission is asked and gratitude is returned.  Here are a few more water pics with a different point of view from yesterdays paddle.  Enjoy!
