About SCPT Family

3 canoe families from the Sunshine Coast participated in 2011 PULLING TOGETHER on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This annual event involves approximately 20 canoe families, or 300 participants, and community members en route. Pulling Together is a unique opportunity for the RCMP, First Nations People, Youth, and other government agencies to work together and build relations. Thank you for visiting our blog. We hope to update the blog regularly until we meet again in Pulling Together 2012. All my relations.

What a Difference a Trailer Makes!

In April this year, the Ministry of Children and Family Development supported the work done by the canoe culture on the Sunshine Coast - and in particular the School District 46 Aboriginal Programs canoe - by providing funds for a Northern Dancer canoe trailer.   As well as
Pulling Together journeys, the SD46 canoe, s-yewén s-néxwîlh,  participates in a number of Sunshine Coast initiatives to support young people learning about their culture - and gaining a sense of belonging and confidence.   The trailer made all the difference on the Pulling Together trip.  We truly would not have been able to participate fully if it were not for the ability to launch and retreive the SD46 canoe from so many locations on the West Coast of Vancouver Island.   Thank-you MCFD!
