About SCPT Family

3 canoe families from the Sunshine Coast participated in 2011 PULLING TOGETHER on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This annual event involves approximately 20 canoe families, or 300 participants, and community members en route. Pulling Together is a unique opportunity for the RCMP, First Nations People, Youth, and other government agencies to work together and build relations. Thank you for visiting our blog. We hope to update the blog regularly until we meet again in Pulling Together 2012. All my relations.

Arriving to Ucluelet - July 3, 2011

Approaching the end of the second day of paddling. We arrived to our final destination after we had  stopped part ways to disembark and reload at another destination on our approach to Ucluelet.  Personally, I don't know the details of the situation like the skippers do, but I trust that all is working according to plan (or an adapted plan).  Nonetheless, it was quite a process loading and unloading canoes and transporting people by bus or vehicle 45 minutes away.  We succeed and successfully arrived.  By the time we unloaded our gear and set up camp, we were ready to eat dinner by 9 pm. The band hall was over flowing with people from the community or Pulling Together.  Dinner started with prayer, from an elder, drumming and singing by a group of young boys, and thank yous from the organizing committee.  The food was delicious (sorry, no pic).  The youth, once again, served the guests of their community, standing room only.  I particularly liked the BBQ salmon, spaghetti, and white bread.  For dessert... I had one HUGE apple.  Yum.

BTW: the best part of the evening (while blogging) was the ongoing singing and drumming by locals and youth from Pulling Together.  It was phenomenal.
