About SCPT Family

3 canoe families from the Sunshine Coast participated in 2011 PULLING TOGETHER on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This annual event involves approximately 20 canoe families, or 300 participants, and community members en route. Pulling Together is a unique opportunity for the RCMP, First Nations People, Youth, and other government agencies to work together and build relations. Thank you for visiting our blog. We hope to update the blog regularly until we meet again in Pulling Together 2012. All my relations.

McGyver (aka James)

My deepest apologies for not having a picture of what I had witnessed that day.  On July 5, 2011, the last 2 canoes to arrive on the barge to Bamfield 8 hours late were lifted by a crane onto the water.  The Dancing Serpent was the last canoe to arrive with it's skipper James flying down with the canoe like Jack Sparrow from "Pirates of the Caribbean."  I caught a glimpse of this momentous event.  I was awe struck.  James jumps into his canoe and proceeds to paddle as a one man show to greet the SD46 canoe.  He picked up 4 paddlers to help pull the Dancing Serpent towards the other canoes to partake in the Bamfield protocol.  I had a tonne of fun paddling in a different canoe with a different skipper.  James continued to impress me with his agility and skill set with the canoe by individually tying it up and cleaning it out as we came to shore.  He is committed to his canoe and the youth in his crew.  Thank you for the experience James.  It was definitely one to remember.  From now on I will remember James, the skipper of the Dancing Serpent, as McGyver of Pulling Together 2011.
