About SCPT Family

3 canoe families from the Sunshine Coast participated in 2011 PULLING TOGETHER on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This annual event involves approximately 20 canoe families, or 300 participants, and community members en route. Pulling Together is a unique opportunity for the RCMP, First Nations People, Youth, and other government agencies to work together and build relations. Thank you for visiting our blog. We hope to update the blog regularly until we meet again in Pulling Together 2012. All my relations.

Surf Landing - July 2, 2011

Our first day of paddling was exciting on the one hand and frightening on the other.  Although the waters were generally good, paddling in the mist annd rain can be trying at best.  With that said, spirits of the paddlers were up.  On this treturous day, we did a "surf landing."  What does that mean?  We would go on shore bow first ging perpendular to the surf.  Normally, the canoe would go to shore stern first to indicate that we are arriving in peace.  However, under these conditions the canoe would turn over if attempted.  one canoe almost had annd took in some water.  This canoe was blessed before departing for our next destination. everyone paddling are safe and sound.
